I like to play when I work. You never know where you end up when you do. Wouldn’t it be just awful to just do the same thing over and over again? It’s my greatest fear. I hate doing same things. I get bored and I do everything I can to avoid it.
So now and then I do something different from what I intended from start. This summer I started to take some portraits outside in the nature. And I have also done a few portraits again with landscapes as backgrounds. Like this one I published on Instagram in June.
The landscape in the portrait is from the Bad water Basin in Death Valley, USA. It was really hot that day when we drove from Las Vegas trough the valley on our way back to San Fransisco. About 50 degrees Celsius! The warmest day that year in the valley. I was sweating like a pig and I had to drink lots and lots of water to keep hydrated. But it was totally worth it! We got some amazing memories and photos! And little did I know that I would use one of the landscape photos in one of my portraits a couple of years later!
Death Valley is an inspirational place. It’s beautiful, raw and some times deadly hot. I love to go there and stay for a longer time and make portraits. Some day soon hopefully I will get that chance. It would be such an great experience. And I think I could make some amazing art in the desert.
